Michael Reiziger is a former Dutch football player, who played with Ajax – with whom he won one Champions League – Milan and FC Barcelona, for which he played in more than 200 official games in seven years. Michael played one decade with the Dutch national team, representing the nation in three European Championships and the 1998 World Cup.
Michael studies the Football Management Degree at the Johan Cruyff Institute. On his experience the most important aspect of management is communication: “Communication should have a managers’ continuous attention. It is essential to getting to know your staff and your team. Only if you know them personally very well, you’ll be able to build an excellent team.”
“I believe Pep Guardiola was an impressive leader; he was different on television than in real life. He built up a close relationship with every player, on and off the field. He knew – for example – all the birthdays and family situations of each player. He transmitted confidence to the team and gave a lot of responsibility to the players. If you reach that point, you can say you are an excellent manager. Don’t you think so?”
