The Johan Cruyff Academy in Groningen is the new institution within our network. It offers elite athletes in the northern part of The Netherlands the opportunity to balance high-level sports with a four-year full-time study program in Sports Marketing at the Bachelor of Business Administration level
The new Johan Cruyff Academy forms part of the School of Marketing Management of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences.
The kick-off was celebrated on September 24th in the presence of Johan Cruyff, the brand new student-athletes and representatives of our network. The Cruyff Academy Groningen starts with 14 student-athletes, who were introduced to the audience. A plaque was unveiled and there was a freestyle football show performed by an alumnus of the Hanze University.
Rob Verburg, team manager of the Johan Cruyff Academy: “We notice there is a lot of interest for this new Johan Cruyff Academy. We´ll educate students from all sports branches, from football to golf and from cycling to volleyball. All sports will be represented. This makes us feel very proud”.
Johan Cruyff: “With this new Johan Cruyff Academy in Groningen and our universities in Amsterdam and Tilburg, we now have the whole country covered to get student-athletes educated! I believe more athletes should lead the sports sector. Athletes have both valuable experiences from sport and a passion for it; with the right education, they’ll be the people best equipped to improve the sports industry”.
