Johan Cruyff Institute and Coventry University are teaming up to share cutting edge sports industry expertise and knowledge, providing access to sport management development and PhD training to students from both institutions
Johan Cruyff Institute and Coventry University have formalized a strategic collaboration that will allow their respective students to access the knowledge in sport management of both institutions in both centers. As part of the new agreement, students at Johan Cruyff Institute holding an official master’s degree will be offered the chance to extend their training with a doctorate at Coventry University.
In exchange, a number of Coventry University’s students will be able to access the Seminar Series: Football Industry Insights events. The unique seminar series, which is partly hosted at the world-famous Camp Nou – the home of FC Barcelona -, is designed to give attendees the chance to gain access to sports industry insiders, providing exclusive education and insights into a highly competitive sector. The week-long event also offers access to influential sports speakers and exceptional networking opportunities.
Johan Cruyff Institute has a strong focus on developing the next generation of leaders in sport management, having seen a number of high-profile figures from the world of sport pass through its doors. Boasting an abundance of qualities in common, the two institutions have every reason to be positive about the recent agreement, which will see Coventry University and Johan Cruyff institute join forces to enrich the educational experiences on offer to their respective students.
Lauding the potential and quality of the collaboration, Johan Cruyff Institute’s general manager, Mariël Koerhuis, spoke of her excitement after the agreement was reached. “This agreement means a qualitative enrichment of our international academic network. Coventry University, acknowledged for being a forward-looking, modern university with a proud tradition of high-quality education and a focus on applied research, is an important player within the international academic scene. We’re both honoured and excited to start working together for the benefit of sport management education.”
Dr. Simon Gérard, Course Director for Coventry University’s MSc in Sport Management was also keen to praise the agreement. “This partnership with Johan Cruyff Institute is another fantastic achievement for the MSc Sport Management at Coventry University and reflects the truly international dimension of the course. It is a testament of our commitment to offer our students the richest possible experience and demonstrates, once again, our commitment to cutting-edge research in sport management,” he said.
Johan Cruyff Institute placed its Master in Sport Management among the elite for the ninth consecutive year in the SportBusiness International Rankings 2020. Coventry University is also ranked among the best universities internationally. In 2019, it was recognized in the QS Stars University Rankings with the highest rating in the categories of teaching, employability, internationalization, facilities, innovation and inclusion, standing out in the areas of student satisfaction, graduate prospects, global collaborations and diversity.
