Johan Cruyff Institute sponsors for the second consecutive year the youth football tournament The Cup, awarding five scholarships for education in football business among the participating teams

For the second year in a row, Johan Cruyff Institute is a sponsor of The Cup, a youth football tournament held from 17 to 20 August in the town of Sant Pol de Mar, near Barcelona. Participating in the event will be the young promises from the most representative teams of La Liga, such as Atletico Madrid, RCD Espanyol, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Valencia CF, as well as newly-promoted Girona FC and At. C. Sant Pol, as the host team.

One of the missions of Johan Cruyff Institute is to collaborate in the development of athletes beyond their sporting careers, and it is vital to make them realize the importance of studying at these ages, when many young people must decide whether to stop their studies in order to become professionals in their sport. The institution will award four scholarships to study the Football Business Fundamentals course among the young promises participating in the tournament and one scholarship for the Postgraduate Diploma in Football Business for the winning team.

Cristina Palés, marketing manager at Johan Cruyff Institute, stresses the importance of this awareness: “Participating in the second edition of The Cup with scholarships gives us the opportunity to raise awareness among young talents that it is important to be more educated beyond the football fields. We are very grateful to Manu Campás, a former student of ours and the tournament director, for this new opportunity”.

Manu Campás studied the Master in Sport Management at Johan Cruyff Institute and The Cup tournament was his final project of the Master. “A result of my great experience at the Johan Cruyff Institute, The Cup has four core values: Teamwork, Humility, Fair Play and Academic Education. We, the organizers, consider that education is very important among young athletes and the fact that the Cruyff Institute is one of the sponsors and is awarding five scholarships greatly reinforces the value of the tournament. Personally, the Master changed my life and I only have words of thanks for the institution”, says Manu.
