The IX Patrocina un Deportista Awards highlight Johan Cruyff Institute‘s commitment to gender equality and opportunities in the sports industry
Johan Cruyff Institute was honored at the IX Patrocina Un Deportista [Sponsor an Athlete] Awards, organized last November 7 at the Hotel Ilunion Pío XII in Madrid. The event brought together athletes, representatives of sports institutions and organizations and companies in the industry to recognize, for the ninth consecutive year, the communion between the business world and Olympic and Paralympic sport.
Johan Cruyff Institute received the award in the section of ‘Women, Business and Sport‘, in collaboration with AEMED. Lukas Dorda, e-learning manager at Johan Cruyff Institute, was entrusted with collecting this distinction on behalf of our organization.

Dorda recalled that “equal opportunities for athletes was, above all, what Johan Cruyff was pursuing when he decided to found Johan Cruyff Institute more than 25 years ago. Opportunities for athletes, men and women alike, to integrate into the world of sport management and contribute their values to this industry. Today, these athletes are joined on our programs by professionals from a wide variety of business backgrounds who want to dedicate their careers to sport.”

Johan Cruyff Institute is firmly committed to bringing more women into the classroom and breaking the glass ceiling that makes it difficult for more women to reach management positions. Its scholarship fund, The Cruyff Athlete Fund, through which they award scholarships in sport management to professional athletes from minority sports or with few economic resources, is a pillar of our CSR which once again emphasizes equal opportunities. This year, for example, half of their eight new scholarship recipients are women.
As Johan used to say: ‘Alone we can do nothing, we must do it together’. It is a good time to remember this, to recognize initiatives of this type and to invite more companies and organizations to join in so that sport continues to be an example of inclusion and opportunity for all areas of society.
