For the third consecutive year, the Johan Cruyff Institute repeats as sponsor of the youth football tournament The Cup, awarding five scholarships among the participating teams
Johan Cruyff Institute is back for the third year in a row to support the young promises of Spanish football by sponsoring The Cup, a youth tournament organized and run by the former student of the Master in Sport Management, Manu Campás. The institution will award four scholarships among the participating teams for the Course in Football Business Fundamentals and one scholarship for the Online Postgraduate Diploma in Football Business to the champion team.
The Cup will be held from August 16 to 19 in Sant Pol de Mar, near Barcelona, and has again secured the participation of first-class teams for this edition: Atlético de Madrid, RCD Espanyol, FC Barcelona, Girona FC, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Athletic Club de Bilbao and Atlètic Club Sant Pol, as the host team.
The mission of the Johan Cruyff Institute is to promote the development of athletes beyond their sporting careers, and it is vital to heighten awareness of the importance of studying at these ages, when many young people must decide whether to drop their studies to become professionals in their sport.
It was precisely in the classrooms of the Johan Cruyff Institute where the idea for the tournament came about, as the final master project of Manu Campás. “As a result of my great experience at the Johan Cruyff Institute, The Cup has four values: teamwork, humility, fair play and academic training,” says Manu. “Academic training among young athletes is very important, and that the Johan Cruyff Institute is one of the sponsors and donates five scholarships greatly reinforces the value of the tournament. Not all the players will get to make their living from football and if, through The Cup, we can let them know about other ways to dedicate themselves to something they are passionate about, it is very rewarding to be able to do so. I’m delighted that this year four alumni of the Johan Cruyff Institute who have just completed their master’s degrees are joining the organization of The Cup 2018 as volunteers.” Manu also recalls that “thanks to the fact that I did the Master in Sport Management and to the continuous help of the Johan Cruyff Institute, I was able to found Auria Sports, my sports events agency”.
