The CUP teams up with Johan Cruyff Institute to promote education for athletes among tournament participants

In its fourth edition, The CUP again counts on Johan Cruyff Institute as academic sponsor of the tournament to promote education for athletes among the participants

For the fourth consecutive year, Johan Cruyff Institute will be academic sponsor of the youth football tournament ‘The CUP’, which will take place in the town of Sant Pol de Mar, near Barcelona, from August 15 to 18. With the aim of promoting education for athletes among the tournament participants, Johan Cruyff Institute is offering five scholarships to study the  Football Business Fundamentals online course, which will be awarded in a draw among all the participants, and one scholarship for the Postgraduate Diploma in Football Business Online, awarded to the winning team.

The CUP reaches its fourth edition “with the clear objective of consolidating the project,” says its director and former student of the Master in Sport Management at Johan Cruyff Institute, Manu Campás. At. C. Sant Pol, FC Barcelona, Girona FC, RCD Espanyol and Real Madrid will all take part in the tournament again, and this year there will be three new teams: Real Betis and Villarreal FC, at the national level, and the first international team, Sagan Tosu, from Japan.

“We are organizing the fourth edition with more enthusiasm than ever, thanks to the fact that the organization staff has increased and, above all, because they are from the sector. With a very attractive roster, and with Lluís Carreras as sports director, every year The CUP receives more requests to participate from high-level national and international teams. But for now, the event only allows eight teams to take part, since it is created to be the last test before the start of the league, which starts a week later”, explains Manu.

One of the novelties of this edition is The CUP’s collaboration with the Asociación Pulseras Candela, a project that promotes childhood cancer research at the Sant Joan de Déu hospital in Barcelona.
