The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the entity with which Johan Cruyff Institute jointly delivers the Official Master’s Degree in Sport Management, reaffirms its position as one of the most prestigious and highly valued universities in the world, occupying the 170th place in the World University Ranking (WUR) 2022, published by the Times Higher Education magazine. The UAB also remains the second-best university in Spain and number 75 in Europe, consolidating its position among the most highly valued academic centers in a ranking that evaluates the teaching, research, knowledge and international vision of more than 1,600 universities around the world.

The Official Master’s Degree in Sport Management is the result of the collaboration agreement that Johan Cruyff Institute signed in 2015 with the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with the aim to join forces and promote university education in one of the professional sectors with the highest economic growth.

Johan Cruyff was present at the media presentation of the collaboration agreement with the UAB in 2015.

“The master’s degree not only offers a global vision of sport management, with a theoretical and applied vision of the reality in the sector, but it is also accredited by the Catalan University Quality Agency (AQU) as a program recognized for its quality. This mention is recognized throughout the European Union, making our master’s degree one of the programs with the highest academic quality in Europe,” says Ricard Esparza, academic coordinator of the program at the UAB.

The sports industry already accounts for 1% of world GDP, more than 2% of the EU’s GDP and more than 3.3% of Spain’s GDP, a clear indicator of its consolidation and, at the same time, of the possibilities it offers for new professionals prepared to continue developing the sector. Almost 3% of the jobs created in the European Union are in the sports industry. Sport management requires specialization, a great understanding of the economic and business ecosystem, and the ability to apply new technologies based on entrepreneurial initiatives.

The program not only provides the theoretical knowledge necessary to understand the sector’s context, but above all, it provides in-depth practical learning and the development of the most necessary competencies and skills in sport management.
