Johan Cruyff Institute will award two scholarships for a specialized online course, one to PSV and the other to Feyenoord, the two protagonists of Johan Cruyff Shield 2024
Committed to the evolution and professionalization of the sports industry, Johan Cruyff Institute will be present at Johan Cruyff Shield 2024. There, it will award two scholarships to study one of the specialized online Diplomas it offers (Sport Tourism, Sport Management, Sport Marketing, Sport Sponsorship, Football Business, Sustainability in Sport). The scholarships will be distributed among the members of PSV and Feyenoord, the protagonists of the match.
Johan Cruyff Shield 2024 will pit the winner of the NL Eredivisie League (PSV) against the winner of the KNVB Cup (Feyenoord). This is the social match of Dutch soccer, supporting the Cruyff Foundation to support their projects that enable children to play sports. The match also marks the kick-off of the 2024-2025 soccer season. This year’s Johan Cruyff Shield will take place on Sunday, August 4, at Philips Stadium in Eindhoven.
As in previous editions, Cruyff Foundation will join the event as a charity. Through its motto “Creating Space,” it ensures that children have a place to play sports and can improve their physical and mental health. Therefore, 1 euro from every ticket sold will go to Cruyff Foundation to support G-football projects (football for the disabled in the Netherlands).
“My vision of sports management is quite simple. I believe that people who are passionate about sport are the best people to run sports organizations,” said Johan Cruyff. Johan Cruyff Institute scholarships will be shared between members of PSV and Feyenoord. Competitively, PSV won the last three Johan Cruyff Shields. Feyenoord won only one of the last eight meetings with the Eindhoven side at Philips Stadium. In addition, PSV has won Johan Cruyff Shield fourteen times, while Feyenoord has managed to win the Dutch Super Cup four times.
Since 2017, the year after Johan Cruyff’s death, the trophy has a new design. His image is incorporated into the pewter bowl. It also has fourteen corners, in reference to his famous jersey number. In addition, the tournament has received a new KNVB logo since 2017, which also includes the image of Johan Cruyff.
