The new 2019-20 academic year starts at Johan Cruyff Institute with students of 57 different nationalities and representation on the five continents
Johan Cruyff Institute starts the 2019-20 academic year with a new set of students who, with our specialized academic training in sport management, sport marketing and sponsorship, football business and coaching, have the enthusiasm and ambition to join the thousands of graduates that, year after year, are nourishing the increasingly demanding sports industry worldwide as well-qualified professionals.
This year the Johan Cruyff Institute classrooms are welcoming students from the five continents: a total of 446 new students from 57 different nationalities distributed between the on-campus and blended programs in Barcelona, the Netherlands, Peru, Mexico and online. An interesting and heterogeneous combination of future leaders in the sports industry. To these, we must add the youngest in the network: 207 students at Johan Cruyff College (vocational education for elite athletes in the Netherlands) and 90 at Johan Cruyff Academy (four-year bachelor program sport marketing for elite athletes in the Netherlands). Johan Cruyff Academy has recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary. It was there that the academic legacy of Johan Cruyff began which, in 2002, was expanded with the creation of Johan Cruyff Institute, dedicated to higher education.
During the month of September, the centers in Barcelona and the Netherlands organized their welcome days for the new on-campus and blended program students. The Frans Otten Stadium in Amsterdam was the setting chosen for the kick-off of Johan Cruyff Institute Amsterdam, with 64 new students for the Master in Sport Management and the Master in Coaching.
The action moved two weeks later to Barcelona, the international headquarters of Johan Cruyff Institute where all the activities are coordinated and the on-campus and blended master’s degrees and postgraduate diplomas are taught, and the online programs are managed. A good many of the students from Barcelona enrolled in the Official Master’s Degree in Sport Management taught jointly with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Master in Sport Management Blended, the Postgraduate Diploma in Sport Management, the Postgraduate Diploma in Sport Marketing and the Master in Football Business in partnership with FC Barcelona received the welcome from the general manager, Mariël Koerhuis, on the premises of Johan Cruyff Institute Barcelona.
The inauguration of the third edition of the Master in Football Business in partnership with FC Barcelona took place in two different locations. After a first session at the club premises, the students were invited to the Camp Nou presidential box for a welcome ceremony hosted by Marta Plana, board member of FC Barcelona and head of Barça Innovation Hub, and Mariël Koerhuis, general manager of Johan Cruyff Institute. “The trajectory and experience of a club that this year will have 120 years of history endorses us, but what makes this master’s degree special is the charisma and added value that Johan Cruyff‘s legacy brings, through Johan Cruyff Institute,” said Marta Plana.
In August, Johan Cruyff Institute Mexico launched a new edition of the International Master in Football Business with 48 students, while 17 students enrolled for the Diploma in Marketing and Sport Business in Monterrey and 30 more will join the program in Mexico City in October. Johan Cruyff Institute Peru will receive 30 new students at its center in Lima to study its two programs, the Master in Sport Management and the Master in Football Business, from November.
