The Official Master's Degree in Sport Management stands out in El Mundo rankings 2022

Johan Cruyff Institute and UAB’s Official Master’s Degree in Sport Management is ranked in the top 4 of the 250 best master’s degree programs in Spain in the business category, being the only one specialized in sport management

The Official Master’s Degree in Sport Management jointly offered by the UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Johan Cruyff Institute is once again among the most highly valued and prestigious higher education programs in Spain, according to the El Mundo rankings 2022. The guide includes the best 250 master’s programs selected from more than 1,000 candidates. The Johan Cruyff Institute and UAB official master’s degree is ranked in fourth position in the business section, and is the only one specifically dedicated to sport management.

The exhaustive analysis gathers the opinion of more than 800 experts in the field, teaching staff, current and former students, and heads of companies that collaborate in the degree programs. To qualify for the ranking, candidate programs must meet 25 criteria related to the demand for the master’s degree, the human resources used in teaching, the syllabus, the results (dropout and success rates) and the material resources (use of new technologies and specialized spaces).

In the report, El Mundo includes a ranking of 50 specializations and the five best institutions offering them. The Official Master’s Degree in Sport Management is in its seventh edition this year. It is linked to the university’s Faculty of Economics and Business and is taught on-campus and online, and in two languages (Spanish and English).

The master’s degree is mainly aimed at those who have studied physical activity and sport sciences, business administration and management, economics, marketing, tourism or communication. Among the expected professional opportunities for graduates of the program are the following: administration and management of companies in the sports sector, management of clubs, management of events and sports facilities, management of marketing and sponsorship programs, and the creation of companies in the sports sector.

This is the case of the former professional football player from Paraguay, Edgar Romero, who did not hesitate for a moment when it came to moving to Barcelona to do the master’s degree. “The experience on the Official Master’s Degree in Sport Management has been unique. The interaction with colleagues from all over the world, visits to sport entities and exposure to practical cases applied to the industry have been fascinating, as well as enjoying the dynamic city of Barcelona. The program has allowed me to acquire a holistic and international vision of the sector, thanks to the networking and the close support of the teaching staff. Through this experience, I now find myself linked to the sports sector in the areas that I am passionate about: business, marketing, events and education. And I am convinced that many more challenges will come,” he assures.
